Governance—balancing all our interests

P&Cs – working better together

It’s been said ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ – the combined wisdom and nurturing of people across the generations. Nowhere is this more important than in our schools and Parents and Citizens Associations (P&Cs) are part of the growing trend towards greater involvement by family and community members in school life.

Operating for more than 60 years and with almost 1300 associations, P&Cs Qld provides support and training for members and volunteers in all aspects of their operations including fundraising activities, tuckshops, school functions and outside school hours care. P&Cs Qld encourage parents, students and school communities to foster quality educational outcomes and support for children and young people.

Local issue champions

Queensland’s councils are among the biggest and most progressive in Australia, responsible for complex infrastructure projects, large workforces and billion dollar budgets. As the sphere of government closest to the community, they operate across diverse regions and provide services including water and waste collection, environmental management, disaster preparedness, libraries, parks, roads and public transport. Councils play an important role in local and regional economic growth, working with business to improve local assets and create jobs.

The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is a not-for-profit peak body helping the State’s 77 councils improve their operations and strengthen relationships with their communities through innovation and improved service delivery. The LGAQ and councils are passionate advocates for Queensland’s cities and regions, working to strengthen community connections and economic growth.

Collaborative outcomes

DestinationQ is a partnership between Queensland Government and key stakeholders within the tourism industry—united to achieve collaborative outcomes for the long-term development of the industry.

This commitment started with a forum in Cairns in 2012. Now an annual gathering, these forums provide industry players with the opportunity to examine issues and discuss how, together, they can continue to work towards their ambitious growth target for tourism - to double overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.

DestinationQ is an example of government and enterprise working together to achieve a shared goal. Visit the DestinationQ website to learn more about the 20-year plan for Queensland.
