Governance

On this page:

Queenslanders’ vision for governance

In 2044, a diverse group of Queenslanders will be involved in the governance of the state. Communities will be empowered to become involved in making decisions on issues that concern them and in delivering projects. Regulation will be less intrusive and will serve as an enabler for innovation and productivity, while maintaining necessary consumer, environmental and safety protections. Low-risk industries will be empowered to self-regulate. Service delivery will be streamlined to meet the needs of the community and be provided in a timely manner.

Why governance is a foundation

The decisions made by governments and community organisations change our lives. Read more on page 83 of The Queensland Plan (PDF, 4.19MB).

Spotlight on governance

What Queenslanders want

The following goals highlight what Queenslanders said they wanted to be, do or achieve (in relation to this foundation). These goals are accompanied by the outcomes Queenslanders said they want to see. Read detailed descriptions of success factors in The Queensland Plan (PDF, 4.19MB).

Goal What does success look like?
G33
We have localised and more flexible decision-making.
We will achieve collaborative outcomes.
Government decisions are responsive, open and transparent.
We will make faster and better decisions.
G34
Regulation is outcome-based.
Regulation will only be applied where necessary.
We will continually improve our regulation and regulatory models.
G35
Government is more effective and efficient.
There will be no duplication of services and a closer partnership between government and business.
We will be flexible, adaptable and committed to innovation.
Government will operate with a long-term perspective.
Productivity will be increased with less overlap in levels of government.
Different models for service delivery and funding will be implemented.
We will adopt accountability measures to ensure the Queensland government is well regarded by the people.
