Get involved – Infrastructure

There are many ways you can help achieve our vision for Infrastructure. Here are just a few suggestions to get you started.

Individuals

  • Shop locally to reduce pressures on our transport infrastructure and your costs.
  • Identify how you could substitute some travel by going online—work from home or teleconference.
  • Travel on public transport where possible to reduce congestion.
  • Make the most of pedestrian bridges and bikeways.
  • Report damage to infrastructure to local authorities.

Community

  • Get involved in community consultation for plans and projects in your local area.
  • Help maintain community infrastructure—keeping parks, hospitals and schools litter and graffiti free.
  • Identify infrastructure needs in your community and connect with your local Member of Parliament or councillor to discuss solutions.
  • Support local sporting clubs and community groups to improve their facilities through volunteering or local fundraising.
  • Help promote ways to reduce water and energy consumption in your community to reduce peak demand.

Business and industry

  • Use logistics efficiently—shipping goods in bulk reduces pressure on the transport network.
  • Invest in and use technology to bridge geographic distance, make new connections and explore opportunities that drive efficiency.
  • Consider how your business can use existing infrastructure to better connect locally and globally.
  • Partner with government to develop new or restore existing infrastructure in communities.
  • Research and develop innovative communication technologies and world-class infrastructure design.

Government

  • Prioritise infrastructure for economic growth and productivity.
  • Provide a credible pipeline of projects
  • Coordinate planning to facilitate the effective delivery of infrastructure at the local level.
  • Support smarter use of existing infrastructure and better allocation of new infrastructure investments.
  • Consult with the local community in developing infrastructure plans and major projects.
