Mr Leon Yeatman
Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council

A descendant of the Gunganghi people of Yarrabah, Leon is a current serving Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the local government sector and has over 15 years executive management experience.

Currently serving at Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council, on Cape York Peninsula, he is actively involved in leading the council administration.

Within the sector he is a respected member of the Local Government Managers Association supporting the Indigenous CEO forums and participating in activities that promote local government leadership and best practice.

Leon also participates in activities organised by the Local Government Association of Queensland particularly in a supporting role for his Mayor and councillors at the state conference, at the Indigenous Leaders forums, and in implementing programs/activities for councillors/staff.

He has a keen interest in Indigenous affairs and a particular focus on strategic planning and economic development. His work history includes active involvement in planning scheme development, economic development planning, Native title negotiations, advocacy and coaching. Outside of work he is a strong family man who has been married for near 20 years, with four beautiful children aged between nine and 19.

Outside of work he is a keen fisherman who doesn’t mind a Barra or a few muddies.

His view for Queensland is one where dreams can be realised and his involvement in The Queensland Plan has been one of ensuring Indigenous content and securing a real future for our future generation.
